Celebrating the International Day of Light and Empowering Future Generations through STEAM in AI

In this week’s newsletter we will be celebrating the International Day of Light, which is taking place this week. It is a global day of observance that explores and celebrates the diverse applications, and remarkable advancements stemming from the study and harnessing of light.

We’d also like to take this opportunity to shed light on STEAM in AI – our program dedicated to making STEM accessible for high school students everywhere and nurturing ethical data and AI champions.

The deadline to apply for our 2023 summer cohort is May 21st, so check out our STEAM in AI page to learn more and apply!

The international day of light, held annually on May 16th, serves as an occasion to highlight the pivotal role that light plays in advancing human progress across various domains.

From scientific breakthroughs to technological marvels, artistic expressions to cultural manifestations, light has been instrumental in shaping our civilisation and fostering sustainable development.

“The broad theme of light will allow many different sectors of society worldwide to participate in activities that demonstrate how science, technology, art, and culture can help achieve the goals of UNESCO – education, equality, and peace.”

In terms of STEM, light has been “central to our understanding of science and the development of technology.”

Our knowledge of the spectrum of light, for example, has provided insights that have allowed us to understand our past and to develop technology to improve our present and future.

To celebrate the international day of light, head over to their events page where you will find information about events ranging from art exhibitions, talks, and activities to get involved in worldwide, both in person and online.

Just as the goal of International Day of Light is to encourage us all to consider how we could make a difference in fields ranging from communication, science, technology, and sustainable development, our STEAM in AI program similarly hopes to pave the way for the next generation of Data and AI champions in all fields who will champion the cause of responsible innovation.

The STEAM in AI program matches high school students with data and AI experts for a transformative mentorship experience.

The program offers hands-on projects that provide invaluable learning opportunities, allowing students to explore the realms of data science, artificial intelligence, and ethical decision making.

One of DataEthics4All Foundation’s primary objectives is to eliminate the shadows of inequality, and ensure that every child, regardless of their socioeconomic status, has equal access to high-quality STEM education.

Through this program, we hope to cultivate a future workforce that priorities responsible innovation and ethical decision-making.
